Tom Murillo (Rage against the Machine) did an excellent guitar solo - with Bruce Springsteen at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremony a few years back.
Its up there with the Prince solo - who knew Prince was that good of a guitar player...

Zeb: wow that's great to hear. I once beat Bic's dad at pool in the Shakespeare's Head in Brighton. Thst's as close as I get to a claim on being linked to Cardiacs. I bought the seaside in an indie record shop in 1989 maybe. Really liked levitation too. Somehow a great humanity to the bands in that scene that has touched a lot of people. The warmth for Tim at the moment is very profound I think.

Just read this about it from Tom Petty
I sort of went over to him and said, “Just cut loose and don’t feel sort of inhibited to copy anything that we have, just play your thing, just have a good time.” It was a hell of a guitar solo, and a hell of a show he actually put on for the band. When he fell back into the audience, everybody in the band freaked out, like, “Oh my God, he’s falling off the stage!” And then that whole thing with the guitar going up in the air. I didn’t even see who caught it. I just saw it go up, and I was astonished that it didn’t come back down again. Everybody wonders where that guitar went, and I gotta tell you, I was on the stage, and I wonder where it went, too.

Brilliant-Genius

Thanks seth and what a song that is.

My absolute favourite band and I have have history with them. Was part of the early 80's psychedelic thing around Croydon and there was a loose group of bands that swapped members and these guys were one of them. A band I was in supported them a couple of times and we used to go to each others gigs and drink a lot. Our drummer was from Ring who's guitarist is in that clip and we used to jam from time to time for a laugh.
Got married and had a kid but many years later ended up in a band with this drummer and came back to the old family again.

One for Zeb:

To my mind Cardiacs are a band fronted by one of the true bona fide musical geniuses of our generation. Revered by bands as diverse as Blur, Marillion, Napalm Death, Faith No More and Radiohead.

If any of you feel like giving a tenner to a good cause this guy needs a hand: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=112630
